This fish, known under the name "Chino" is frequently seen along the coast of the Inland sea
of Japan and often eaten in the regions west of Kansai. It is a favorite fish for fishing
among sports fishers.
In Hiroshima approximately 30% of all young black sea breams in Japan are released, amounting
to about 2 million young fish. In 1993 the catch of 637 tons was approximately 17% of the
nations share.
