Meaning of the city symbol

One of the castle mountains of Fukuyama castle has formerly been called "bat mountain", thus, this symbol has been designed using "bat" and mountain.


City of roses, Fukuyama

Fukuyama is the "city of roses". The rose park symbolizes it. In spring and autumn 4,500 shrubs of 280 rose species blossom and provide the citizens with a place of recreation.
The history of the "city of roses, Fukuyama" began in 1956. In one corner of what had been called at that time the Minami park local citizen started planting roses to "heal the wounds of war and restore the peace of mind of the people". Later, roses were planted in during many procedures and in various regions and companies, so that there are currently approximately 400,000 in the city. Now the city tries to become the "city of a million roses". Every year in May the "Fukuyama rose festival" is held centering around the rose park and roses have become a part of the life of Fukuyama's citizens. Naturally, not only citizens, but also many people from within and without the prefecture come visiting.

Fukuyama castle

Fukushima has been declared city in 1916 and currently a population of 380,000. It also has been designated "base city for the Fukushima region" and now tries to organize higher urban functions and city foundations.
The city currently tries to realize the rose centered city image "City of exchange at the sparkling Inland sea, city of marked individuality, Fukuyama", "city overflowing with gentleness of roses", "city showing the strength of roses" and "city of rose fragrance" regarding the city planing for the 21st century.


Tomo no Ura tourist attraction: sea beam fishing

When the light of early summer falls on Tomo no Ura the vigorous shouting of fishermen echoes over the water during their "prayer for a big catch". The tradition is said to go back about 360 years and like on a big paper scroll the tourist ships line up in an optimal angle for this spectacle, that provides an enormous surround effect.
