Mihara is located in the middle of Hiroshima Prefecture. It
developed as a castle town with many temples and shrines built during the
medieval period. It is blessed with a warm climate and is surrounded by the
beautiful Seto Inland Sea and lush greenery.
Mihara was prosperous as a route of continental culture. Since
ancient times it has been an important place of both land and sea
routes. Even now, Mihara is a vital land, sea and air transportation
link. Since the opening of the new Hiroshima Airport and the Sanyo
Expressway, it is expected to become a developing center of commerce and
industry. Additionally, Mihara train station is conveniently located
near the Mihara Port.
For the benefit of visitors, we wouldlike to point out some
interesting places to visit.
First is Mt.Fudekage Inland Sea National Park. From the top of Mt.
Fudekage, you can see the wide expanse of the Seto Inland Sea dotted with
numerous small islands and the distant large island of Shikoku. Between
the many large and small islands, one can see the beautiful white trails
left by ships travelling through the sea. The mountain is planted with
about 2,000 cherry trees, which are stunningly beautiful during cherry
blossom season in April. Also it is a popular hiking spot for people who
want to enjoy the natural scenery.

Next, Buttsuji Temple, which is the headquarters of the Rinzai Shu
Buttsuji Buddhist sect and famous for its Zen meditation center, is
located north of Mihara City. The temple is surrounded by old Japanese
cedar trees which typifies the charms of deep valley forest in Hiroshima.
It is easy to enjoy the natural beauty of each season, for example, the
verdant spring, red leaves of autumn and the pure white snow in winter.
For an interesting experience, you can try Zen meditation at the temple.
Also there are two nice golf courses we would like to recommend, as
well as seven other golf courses with in 30 minutes from the center of
Mihara.
The sake or rice wine, made in Mihara is worth trying. It goes well
with the region's delicious octopus and tasty seafood. The origin of
making sake in Mihara began in the Muromachi Period(1392-1467). The sake
was offered to the Sea Gods as offering in the Edo Period(1603-1867).
You will be pleased with the exceptional sake made in Mihara, its
delicate taste and fragrant bouquet are famous throughout Japan.
Mihara also has some of the most famous festival in Hiroshima
Prefecture. For example, the Yassa Matsuri which started 400 years ago
and the Shinmei Ichi Market.
