In order to rescue the phone system of Tokyo from the slough of destruction, the Major Cities Special Repair Project is put into effect in 1950. The objective is to replace tangled and ruined wiring and corroding cables, and to provide a full overhaul of machinery and wiring facilities. Telephone facilities everywhere are put up as fast as workers are able. In particular, the speed of indoor wiring in major buildings is enough to dazzle the onlooker. It becomes the occasion for an "Olympics of Telephone Skills". Technicians with experience and strength match skills in the open air, striving to restore the telephones of Tokyo at the very earliest possible moment.
