Under the catch phrase "Help the Underprivileged Children in Asia and Africa", NTT's "Young Aid", entering its 11th year as of 1996, is an activity which began in 1986 around our "Young Monitor" activity. Money is primarily raised through charity events such as bazaars at which items provided by NTT employees are sold. This has grown into an event involving nearly all NTT employees and has raised a total of about 2 million dollars since its inception. These proceeds are distributed through the private international aid organization Japan Foster Plan Association. In addition to providing financial aid to underprivileged children in Asia and Africa, proceeds are used to build schools, hospital facilities, and wells to secure safe drinking water in places such as Nepal, Senegal, Sri Lanka, India, Indonesia, and Kenya. Some proceeds are also granted to welfare organizations in each nation to help promote local welfare activities.
