Female employees who have quit NTT, the Ladies Monitor OG Association, and general volunteer groups volunteer to provide a newspaper reading service over the telephone, and, depending on the region, a service for reading received faxes and looking up items in the dictionary. This public service activity started in Tokyo in 1985 and is now conducted at 17 locations throughout Japan. In full support of the activities of these volunteers NTT provides the office space, telephones and newspapers required to carry out this service.
