May 11, 1990 marks the introduction of the 'NTT Card C' service, featuring a credit card used exclusively for credit card calls from card-style public and "pink phones" nationwide. Previously, credit calls required the caller to enter as many as 28 digits from the phone. This new card operates by simply entering an ID number (credit card number) and the number to be dialed. The call is then charged to the caller's account on credit.
