On December 25, 1989, abbreviated dialing of ��-plus-4-digit numbers becomes available from push-button phones, including public phones with push-button dialing. Easier to remember and dial than ordinary numbers, the abbreviated numbers are attractive to businesses. Two types are offered, one for nationwide use, and other for use within local districts only.
