The credit call service charges the specified subscriber's account regardless of where the call is made from and regardless of the destination of the call. The operator-based service started in July 1981 (Showa 56). In August 1986 (Showa 61), a cashless calling service (the automatic credit calling service) was introduced. This service operated by dialing the previously registered subscriber number, the credit number (PIN number) and the number being called from a tone dialing telephone (including public telephones with tone dialing).
