THE MAINICHI NEWSPAPERS
Television broadcasting in Japan started in February 1953 (Showa 28) on the initiative of the Japan Broadcasting Corporation (NHK). However, relay equipment and circuits to transmit and receive the television signal were required to provide universal television broadcasting. Initially, NHK was only able to establish a relay broadcast to Osaka via microwave using temporary equipment. A dedicated television relay system was established in 1954 (Showa 29).
