Information-Technology Promotion Agency, Japan
Outline
Anticipating the coming information-dependent society, the Agency surveys the technical development issues necessary to implement applications over high-speed networks.
- High-speed browsing system: Examines the practicality of (1) the high-speed browsing system (a visual search system available to many users as if they were "turning the pages of a book") that is indispensable to the future electronic library system and (2) the wide-area distributed database management system.
- Remote medicine: Constructs the operation planning system which transmits medical images in real-time, bidirectional mode, allowing remote doctors to discuss while viewing the same image at the same time.
- Aquarium information transfer system: Constructs the system that transmits video images of many forms of life in the aquarium and that provides explanations and supports questions and answers interactively between the aquarium staff and the participant in the experiment.
- Top-down education assist system: Constructs the system that provides those training materials required for top-down education at just the right point which result from dynamically linking multimedia information with CG/VR video images under the active document.
