(Digital Still-picture Transmission Service) |
The communication capability of PHS at 32 kbit/s, is about three times faster than conventional cellular phones. To make the most of this capability, high-speed data communication service that dose not incorporate modems is tested by bypassing the ADPCM codec in the PHS terminal. Although this method has not been standardized, this is the most promising service of the terminal-type PMC services.
By connecting a notebook PC with a PHS terminal to an in-house LAN via PHS wireless access, a customer can get the same communication environment as in his office, even though he is outside. The notebook PC connected a PHS terminal can access multimedia information on WWW servers at anytime and from anywhere in the world. The difference between this system and conventional wireless LANs is that customer can use the same communication environments as that of his office even while outside. Similarly, digital still-picture transmission service, in which pictures taken by electronic cameras can be fed into personal computers or printed out on printers via wireless access, is very effective service for prompt reports of news photographs and for insurance policy claim assessments.
The field video service is a kind of video-on-demand service in mobile communication, and is an exclusive terminal that includes PHS function. The terminal can access multimedia information at speed of 32 kbit/s via wireless access.
The service is very effective for offering local information to tourists because the field video terminal can receive different multimedia information from each cell station which covers a range of several hundred meters.
