The analog electronic switching system is basically the same as the crossbar switching system in terms of mechanism. However, the speech path subsystem uses electromagnetic components and the connection control subsystem employs a stored program control system with the electronic storage and control units. The control unit consists of electronic components such as ICs, dramatically improving the connection servicing speed. The switching system is software controlled, allowing itself to provide detailed billing, dial-in, and many other new services.
