Crossbar Switching System

The crossbar switching system has a matrix of crossbar switches in the speech path subsystem, with the vertical and horizontal bars opening and closing electromagnetically. The connection control subsystem is called a common control system with store-and-forward switching and alternate routing functions. The crossbar switching system greatly contributed to automatic switching throughout Japan by providing many benefits, including high economy and maintainability as well as implementation of various services such as keypad dialing, which were not provided by the conventional step-by-step exchange.
