As the number of telephone users increased, it became difficult for the conventional magneto switchboard to provide smooth switching services. The common-battery switchboard was introduced to solve this problem. It is a manual switching system using the battery for calling, which is installed in the telephone office as a common battery. The common-battery switchboard has significantly higher performance than the magneto switchboard in several points. For example, the call origination lamp turns on when the user simply lifts the handset from its resting position before dialing and the equipment has an improved line accommodation capacity owing to its device configuration.
