When Telephone Lines Get Crowded

Telephone equipment is everyone's property and functions efficiently. However, there are times when for some reason many calls are concentrated on the same place at the same time and telephones become difficult or impossible to use. For example, look at what happens when a radio program asks for a large number of telephone requests.

Whenever a switchboard makes a connection, the effects involve not only that exchange but all other exchanges to which it is connected. This means that not only request calls, but all other calls are affected.
