In 1975, university students Steve Wozniak and Steve Jobs from San Jose in the USA invented the personal computer in their garage. The computer was housed in a small wooden box, was small enough to carry around, and was easy to use. Whereas previously, computers had only been available to large corporations, this invention made computers available to ordinary households. From that point on, the functions and performance of the computer advanced rapidly and achieved performance levels previously only achieved by large computers. The computer was soon able to process photographs and video. Also, telephone lines were no longer used only for voice, but also utilized for data transmission.
