HUUZOKU GAHOU
One of the industries to introduce the telephone early on was mining. In the sixteenth year of the Meiji Period, to start with, state-operated telephone lines were laid between Sapporo and Horonai. Three years later, the telephone was also introduced to the private Ashio copper mine and telephones were rumored to have been set up in the watchhouse inside the pit and also in the club, inns and houses of executives. In Japan in those days, steam engines became the center of power and coal and other mines were an important framework supporting Japan's industry and defense.
