Cordless phones went on sale in May 1980 (Showa 55). The introduction of cordless phones was a significant event which turned a new page in telephone history. The cordless phone used licensed radio waves to link a cordless telephone unit with a connection unit that was connected to the telephone line. This allowed the phone to be used freely within a range of about 20m of the connection unit.
