In 1968 (Showa 43), the Nippon Telegraph and Telephone Public Corporation introduced a data communications service that enabled computers connected to communications lines to exchange data. The first system was a money order communication system for national regional banks and Gunma Bank. There were a number of computer centers using mainframe computers at the time, including privately operated centers. In response to steadily increasing demand for communication lines to be made available for data communications, dedicated communications lines were provided to private corporations by the Nippon Telegraph and Telephone Public Corporation.
