November 1, 1928 marks the end of over seven years of work on the installation of the long distance intercity telephone cable connection between Tokyo and Kobe. As a result, intercity communication is dramatically improved among six major cities including Tokyo and Osaka, as well as all other cities along the path of the cable. This project marks the first great epoch in Japan's long distance telephone service, and the use of cable for long-distance connections is a major milestone in long distance telephone technology. At the same time, the introduction of radio broadcasting 1925 combines with the appearance of low-cost radio receivers to place radio firmly alongside telephone as a popular medium of communication.
