By the later Taisho years, the 50-sound (A-I-U-E-O) order has become the standard in schools, and the individual listings in the telephone directory are also revised to reflect A-I-U-E-O order. In addition, entries are written in horizontal script, phone numbers are listed in Arabic numerals, and exchange numbers are written alongside number listings. The name 'telephone number listings' will be changed to 'telephone directory' in Showa 46 (1971). In 1925, a new media called radio appears. Together with the telephone this spurs the flowering of popular culture in the Taisho era. | ||
