Construction of a high-speed, broadband information communication infrastructure as a local social system and demonstrative experiment on its use as the base for improving the social and economical activities in the community.

• "Multimedia Promotion Project" includes the following community-oriented experiments performed by the prefectural office, nongovernmental companies, organizations, and universities using networks:
  • Multimedia information service: Provides multimedia information from the prefectural office and participating companies using text, audio, still images, and motion pictures.
  • Multimedia electronic conference: Constructs a multimedia electronic conference system supporting audio and video data, based on the electronic conference available in current personal computer communications.
  • Video mail: Allows the user to send those messages to other users by mail which include motion pictures recorded by the video camera, voice and sound, still images, and text.
