"Mizuhiki," or ceremonial string, decorations are one of many ceremonial customs that have come out of the Kyoto Imperial Palace. Essential in any engagement ceremony is the Shochikubai mizuhiki and related adornments for food, and sweets. These mizuhiki are made with 90 cm of material and are each composed of as many as 100 colors, with knots, bends, twists, and stitching that imbibe a sense of joy and import to gift-giving and receiving. |
