The Making of DAI-DENGAKU

Mannojo made big effort to complete DAI-DENGAKU. In the beginning, he read old documents referring to DENGAKU (only a few documents were available) including picture scrolls with folk performance researchers and Japanese literature scholars. The examples are picture scrolls made in the Heian era (the 9-12th century)like "Nenchugyoji-Emaki" and "Chojyu-giga", in which you can see how people (the funny thing is frogs are performing DENGAKU in "Chojyu-giga" !!) danced and played music in DENGAKU.

Mannojo studied fully about the musical instruments, costumes, dances and many other elements of DENGAKU and reproduced them.
Sometimes he recreated them originally. He also adopted the acrobatics in a classical Chinese peformance "SANGAKU", which had been introduced to Japan before DENGAKU was born.

It's A Splendid Composite Art!!

In addition to Mannojo (the director and producer), various talents involve in DAIDENGAKU.

・Acrobats
・Actors of Kyogeki (a classical Chinese Performance), Shingeki (a modern Japanese performance), No and Kyogen (both are classical Japanese performances)
