Telecommunications Access Advisory Committee

The Telecommunications Access Advisory Committee was created by
the Access Board to provide recommendations on accessibility guidelines
for telecommunications equipment and customer premises equipment under
the Telecommunications Act of 1996. The Board will use the advice from
the Committee as the basis for a Notice of Proposed Rulemaking to be
issued in early 1997. At its fifth meeting, the Committee took the
following actions:
- The Committee met in full session, discussed and suggested changes to
Sections 1 through 5 of its draft report, and reached general agreement
on the changes.
- A steering committee was formed to work out details on the remaining
issues, particularly Section 6. The steering committee will work to
reach agreement by January 3, and will share those discussions through
the listserv.
- The Committee will meet for its final session January 13-14, and will
present its report to the Access Board January 15, 1997.
