Trouble with E-mail Pal

About one month ago, I found a penpal through E-mail Penpal connection. What happened is that, the guy that I knew was looking for a girlfriend.

At first I thought we were just like ordinary friends. So we even exchanged our photographs. But later on, I found something wasn't very right in this friendship.

The matter was that he began to think that I am his girlfriend. So I don't want this to happen. So I lied to him that I have a boyfriend already and also I stopped writing to him. He wrote to me and told me that he was hurt and felt that he was being fooled. One week ago, I returned his photograph. I'm really worried with what I have done to him. What should I do next ?

Dear Helper says:

Corresponding to each other on the net does not make you his girlfriend. Use discretion in your future letters. Do not give the impression that you are serious about a relationship.

You should not feel guilty just because he misread your intentions. The emotional contents could be a way of manipulation to keep the relationship. If he has make any threats to harm you, report the matter to the police and your Internet Service Provider for your own protection. You could also check with your Internet Service Provider for a change of your email address.

Refrain from trying to make things right, do not reply his letters, because it will only prolong your anxieties. He will get the message when his attempts to contact you becomes futile.
