Can't Catch Up With Studies

I am feeling very troubled. I am in Sec 2 now...I am doing very badly for my maths since this year.....what should I do?

I am afraid that I can't catch up with my work cos I have to start learning from the first topics to the end and I am afraid there will be no time and I won't be able to catch up...how?

I am scared that I can't catch up with my work for maths this year...

I have not been listening to the lessons since Jan and now I don't exactly know anything about maths this year. I'm in Sec 2..I am scared that I won't be able to make it to Sec 3..what should I do? Exams is coming soon and I don't know anything from chapter 1..how?

Dear Helper says:

The most obvious advise to you is to start getting some help (a tutor) immediately and intensify your efforts to catch up with your work. It is not impossible for you to still pass fairly well in your maths if you make extreme effort to work on it now. You need to sacrifice many things in your activities so that you can devote all your time and energy in your studies.

Do your best in the given time and learn a very important lesson from this. While passing the exam is very important, what is more important here is that you are able to catch up with the work that is expected from you at the end of your secondary two education so that you can advance more comfortably in the years ahead.

It is also good to learn the lesson of being consistent in your work now, as you still have much opportunity to catch up and excel in your studies. Such lessons learnt are invaluable and they tend to make you a better student and your grades should improve if you continue to remember this experiemce, because I am sure you do not want to be caught in this kind of a situation again.

One word of caution here, please make sure that you concentrate on the other subjects too. There is not much point in doing well in your maths at the expense of other subjects. You need to plan a schedule devoting more time to your weaker subjects and also making time for those subjects which you may be better at.

If you have difficulties in locating a tutor, you may want to approach your teacher and tell him/her of your predicament and I am sure that he/she will be interested to assist you if you put in your effort to improve.

All the best!
