Kanda Ch. Meyer was born in the Kingdom of Thailand, Southeast Asian, predominantly Buddhist kingdom almost equidistant between India and China. For centuries known by outsiders as Siam. Thailand has been something of a Southeast Asian migratoy, cultural and religious crossroads. She grew up in Krabi, a magic place in the tropical southern Thailand. Krabi`s major attractions are the beautiful Phi Phi islands, the 75-million-year-old Susan Hoi shell graveyard, one of the only three in the world. As monarch Chulalongkorn (Rama V, 1868-1910) did, she also decided to visit The Land of the Midnight Sun; Norway.

Circumstances, and some sort of predictable fate, led to Stavanger, where she married Michael Holmboe Meyer. "We came from backgrounds that are just about as different as possible: Kanda has studied Theravada Buddism in a monastery. For serveral years she lived like a buddhist-sister in a temple, and like a Buddhist, she has always subscribed to the ideal of religious freedom".
