This story takes place in a year when children in Japan attempted to overcome something. The kids computer network grew to unprecedented proportions and complexity.
They communicated daily with each other as efficiently as computer chips, expecting a short circuit any day. When the kids attempted to place their stories, or "rumors," on their network-in-progress, it was probably on the way to short-circuiting itself out. This was in the late 1980s.
When No Life King travelled through their network, they surely saw him.
