La
forma de presentar esta publicación, como un libro, no
es gratuita: creo que lo más innovador de Internet es
ofrecer la posibilidad de «publicar» de una forma
sencilla y amena a quienes lo deseen. Recorrer toda la
Red es tan inabarcable y tan absurdo, como leerse toda la Biblioteca
Nacional, por contra, publicar está al alcance de
cualquiera, y pese a los tecncismos, a la medida del
hombre.
Previsiblemente, este fenómeno
será comparable en importancia a la invención de la imprenta,
y ya hoy se plantean situaciones similares a las
producidas por el invento de Gutenberg, desde los
problemas de censura y de pérdida de calidad (si antaño
fue la copia manuscrita frente a la impresa, hoy es la
copia impresa frente a la digital) hasta la difusión masiva
de comunicación.
No sé cómo va a afectar a
nuestra sociedad, con su tendencia al exceso (sobre todo
de superficialidad) pero lo cierto es que para muchos
niños será algo tan normal como ahora pueda ser el
teléfono o los videojuegos. Y al igual que se enseña a
leer, conviene que se enseñe a navegar con rumbo, que se
potencien las posibilidades reales de esta red, hija de
la paranoia militarista, nacida del miedo a los otros,
para que sea un medio al servicio del conocimiento del otro, de la convivencia y de esa forma
superior de la cultura que llamamos paz.
Muchos opinan sobre Internet
basándose en algunos contenidos, como podría hacerse
con los libros impresos, pues la mayoría de la información
que se encuentra en la red procede de obras reales, de
textos que se pueden tocar, aunque, por fortuna, no son
consecuentes y no amplian sus juicios a las obras
impresas, por lo que desde la II guerra mundial no se han producido
quemas de libros...
En cuanto al tema del negocio
de la Red, de momento está limitado a las empresas de servicios,
especialmente a las compañias telefónicas.
No conviene ser demasiado
ilusos: en las ondas digitales se refleja la sociedad,
con las deformaciones de todo espejo, no es tanto un espacio
nuevo como un nuevo reflejo de nuestro espacio cotidiano,
con sus grandezas y miserias. No obstante, si somos
capaces de no desorientarnos por los reflejos virtuales,
puede darse una sinergia capaz de ayudarnos a encontrar
soluciones nuevas a viejas preguntas.
Conviene recordar que lo
virtual no es lo real, que
la vida, con sus alegrias y sus dolores, importa más y
está al otro lado, esperándote.

The
form of presenting this publication, like a book, is not
gratuitous: I believe that one of Internet’s most
innovating aspects is to offer the possibility of
«publishing» in a simple and agreeable form for those
who desire it. Traveling through all the Net is so
inaccessible and so absurd as reading all the National Library.
As a counterpoint, publishing is within reach of anyone
and, in spite of the technical requisites, in man’s
measure
Likely, the importance of this
phenomenon will be comparable to that of the invention of
the printing, and nowadays similar situations to those
produced by Gutenberg’s invention have already taken
place, from the censorship problems and the loss of
quality (what yesterday was the hand written copy versus
the printed copy, is today the printed copy versus the
digital one) to the massive diffusion of communication.
I don't know how this is going
to affect our society, with its known tendency to the
excess (specially of superficiality) but, surely, for many
children it will be something as normal as the telephone
or the video-games are right now. And in same way as they
are taught to read, it is convenient for them to be
taught to navigate with direction, developing the real possibilities
of this net, daughter of the militarist paranoia, born of
the fear to the others, so that it will turn into a
medium to get to know the other, to
coexist and to raise that superior way of culture that we
call peace.
Many people give an opinion on
Internet basing their comments on some contents, and the
same could be done with books, since the majority of the
information in the net comes from real works, from texts
that one can touch, although, fortunately, they are not
consequent and they don't extend their judgments to the printed
works: there hasn’t been any more burning of books
after world war II...
As for the topic of the
business in the Net, at the moment they are limited to
services’ companies, especially to telephone
companies.
It is not convenient to be too
much deluded: the digital waves reflect our society, with
the deformations of any mirror, it is not really a new
space, but a new reflection of our daily space, with its
grandness and penuries. Nevertheless, if we are capable
of not being disoriented by these virtual reflections, a synergy
capable of helping us to find new solutions to old
questions can take place.
It convenient to remember that
virtuality is not reality, that life, with its happiness
and its pains, matters much more and is at the other side,
waiting for you.
