Installation of a farm for supplying the first royal residence in Hanover - Duke George of Calenberg
1666-1675
Development of the farm into a summer residence for Duke Johann Friedrich, possibly by architect Bedogni and the construction administrator Stoers; transferring a half-timbered hunting lodge from close to Koldingen to Herrenhausen as the central structure of the Palace. In the year 1675 the first officially royal residence in Herrenhausen. The layout of the first small ornamental garden by court gardener Grosse.
1673
The first enlargement of the garden by garden expert Bauer and the French court gardener Perronet. The garden was then about half so long and half as broad as the Great Garden today.
1676-1680
Development of the Palace, Creation of the Grotto (1677) and Cascade (1676), which are the oldest preserved components today, by court architect Sartorio, fountain expert Cadart (Catarre) and court secretary Westermann.
1688-1690
The Great Palace construction by court architect Wachter bordering the total north side of the Garden, which was only realised in fragments later by the establishment of the Gallery Building and the Orangery. The Great Palace construction, likewise the following enlargement of the garden, is connected with the honour of Elector which Ernst August attained in 1692.
1694-1698
Establishment of the Gallery Building as the first step of the construction of the Great Palace. The site director is court painter and quartermaster Giusti.
1696-1717
Remodelling and Enlargement of the Great Garden to the present-day size by court gardener Charbonnier and quartermaster Welling.
1698-1708
Large scale reconstruction of the Palace and the Grotto by court architect Sartorio and Westermann under the supervision of the construction director Quirini.
1707-1708
Construction of the Page House and the two southern pavilions in the Great Garden using the design of court architect De La Fosse.
1720-1723
The erection of the Orangery by court architect Böhm.
1739
Extensive renewals of the northern wall (originally in half-timbering style )of the Orangery by court architect Heumann.
1747-1749
Building of the apartments for the construction director from Hardenberg using the design of court architect Heumann.
1756
Last residence of George II in Herrenhausen; from now on severe reduction of the cost for the construction of Herrenhausen.
1757
Large scale reconstruction of the south-western corner pavilion constructed by De La Fosse after the fire damage by court architect Heumann.
