[Thread Next] Campus of the Future Program, Japan
I've been thinking about our DS3 line and I have a proposal. I would like the WIDE Board of Directors to pick five campuses in Japan that they feel are ready to really demonstrate what the Internet can do. Those sites should have strong Internet connectivity (I'm assuming that *some* of the Japan DS3s will be in place soon). My proposal is that each campus get's full access to the big pipe for a 7 day period. At the end of the week, the campus has to have a web site up on the topic "7 Days on the Internet." They should explain what they did with the Internet, explain about their campus and their community. The site is oriented around both a global and a local focus: the students should tell their own campus what they did, as well as the rest of Japan. But, the students should also tell the rest of the world what they did and how this technology was used. I'd propose that the program start on Feb. 21 and last through the end of March. Note that if this happens too late in the year, the DS3 will be in use for other purposes (routing Korean traffic, more multicast for our events, etc...) and this chance to put massive amounts of student traffic through might not be available. Potential problems? School holidays? Lack of connectivity from the campuses to the big pipe? Regards, Carl
