The Girl He Never Knew

He is sitting bent at the table
shivering like a leaf.
He always was strong and able
now he is wracked with grief.

It came on the phone this morning
sent via satellite.
Came without slightest warning
"your daughter died last night."

An unfeeling voice was talking
steel hard naked porse.
A policeman found her while walking
she was dead of an overdose.

Now he remembers the baby
that quietly rode his knee.
The thought is dawning, maybe
she didn`t see enough of me.

I sent her loads of money
she had wwhat she wanted to boy.
I always wrote her "honey" -
- God, O God, just why?

Offshore he worked for her buying
the things that she wanted, too.
And now he is brokenly crying
for a girl that he never knew.
