Cuisine


One of the important preparations for any canoe trip is the food planning. Often this is subject to a variety of constraints such as special requirements, allergies, and weight constraints. On the Soper River, there are only minor portages so weight is not that restrictive, however, we need to haul the food up to Iqaluit from Ottawa. There are weight restrictions for baggage. One of our team members is a vegetarian and the other has allergies to green peas, lentils and peanuts. With these constraints, we planned our meals.

We try not to subsist on only oatmeal, though we do for breakfast as it is simple and quick. Lunches are also simple, though we try to vary things by having hummus and tabouleh. Where we do have fun with the cuisine is the suppers.
