This is a copy of a painting showing a possible marine environment that could have existed at the time the sediments of the Billings, Carlsbad and Queenston Formations were deposited. Here can be seen trilobites, such as Triarthrus rougensis, which was a bottom dwelling scavenger; orthocones, such as Geisonoceras tenuistriatum, which was a swimming predator; Crinoids, waving their fronds as they attempt to feed; and bottom dwelling brachiopods such as Lingula Belli, a bottom feeder are also indicated in this image.
