In 1991, Taiwan designated its first wildlife sanctuary, a small island in the southwest corner of Penghu (the Pescadores). Forty- four species of seabirds have been observed on Cat Islet.While most or these birds are migratory, thousands of terns use this small piece of land as their annual breeding grounds.
