Insadong Antique Book Shops

Antique book shops are another feature of Insa-dong.
The book shops here, including T'ongmun-gwan, once made a considerable contribution to the discovery of culturally valuable books. Rare and valuable antique books, including "Ch'ongguyong-n", "Worinsokpo", and "Shiyonghyang-akpo", titles which are well known to most Koreans, entered museums and libraries through the shops here.
However, precious old books are rarely found in the shops now except in reprinted version.
The number of shops has been declining over the years, as it has become harder to obtain valuable books, and the number of customers has declined.
Once reaching up to 20, the number of shops has dropped to seven, including
Shinmundang, Komundang, Korea Book Center, T'ongmun-gwan, and Mun-godang.
