Ch'onggye 5-ga Bag Wholesale Market

This area, called "Ch'ong-o Bag Market," is in the Chongno 5-ga administrative district. Opened in late June, 1987, the Ch'ong-o bag wholesale stores, together with nearby bag shops, are generally referred to as the Ch'onggyech'on Bag Market.
These stores, originally opened in 1960s at Chongno 5-ga and Ch'onggyech'on 5-ga prospered, and then moved into the 1st and 2nd floor of the Ch'ong-o Building. Formerly garment store sites, these floors are now occupied by about 100 stores. The underground floor and the 3rd and 4th floors are occupied by bag component wholesalers.
These Ch'ong-o stores provide bags of their own designs made by their own factories that retail around the nation.
Some stores deliver their bags to department stores. Many stores here sell one or two specialized items, such as handbags, suitcases, briefcases, or student bags.
Specialized items include kindergartener bags, educational institute bags, lunch bags made of cloth, and shoe bags. Since the bags are manufactured in the stores' own factories, the stores sell bags at prices 30-40 percent lower than normal market prices.

Ch'onggye 5-, 6-ga Hat Market

　　About 20 stores specializing in hats are gathered on the 1st floor of P'yonghwa Market, Ch'onggyech'on 5-, 6-ga, and around the opposite side stores. Most of these stores have been selling hats for more than ten years; some stores have been here since the 1960s.
Hats sold here include casual hats, leisure sports hats, hats for special events, fatigue caps, women's hats, and kindergarteners' hats. Most stores sell on large orders for picnics or other events; the prices here are 10-20 percent cheaper than in normal markets. The Segi Hat Store, located near Kwangjang Market, specializes in women's hats, having its own production factory.
The store provides display hats for the fashion industry and sells (retail and wholesale) hats for formal dress.

Ch'onggye 7-ga Bag Wholesale Market

　　Enter at the rear of the inexpensive restaurant alley at the Ch'onggyech'on 7-ga Shinp'yonghwa Market and Hung-in Market, and come out at the Namp'yonghwa Market, Togun Market, and Cheil P'yonghwa Market, where the bag wholesale stores are established.
The major item of the Namp'yonghwa Market and the Paris Arcade of T gun Market is women's handbags, while in the Cheil P'yonghwa Market, suitcases and student bags are the main items. The prices, 30-40 percent lower than in normal markets, are not fixed,therefore each store applies slightly different prices.

Ch'onggye 7-ga Shoe Wholesale

　　Shoe Wholesale Market is housed in four buildings named Tongdaemun Shoe Wholesale Stores' on Ch'onggyech'on 7-ga.
Of the four, A, B, and C are shoe wholesale stores and Building D is used as a warehouse. These shoe stores are the nation's no.1 wholesalers, where inexpensive, varied, and stylish shoes are sold.
The types of products range from men's and women's shoes to sports shoes, mountain-climbing boots, indoor slippers, and roller blades.
The prices are 30-40%, that is, 3,000-5,000 Won, cheaper than normal market prices. The 1st floor of Building A sells men's and women's shoes; the 2nd and 3rd floors deal with "dumped" sports shoes, that is 'out of fashion' goods from retailers are dumped here.
The 2nd and 3rd floors of Building B sell C-class dress shoes (A class - high price range of famous brands; B class - low price range of famous brands; C class - imitations of B class).
Stores at Building C sell sports shoes at prices 30 percent lower than in normal markets.

Namdaemun Accessories Business Blocks

While the major product groups sold in Namdaemun Market are clothing and imported goods, accessories distribution is another major business in the Market.
Accessaries business blocks are scattered throughout the Market.
The Yonsei Business Block and Yusong Business Block are located between the left side of Namdaemun Market entrance on T'oegyero Street and Sowolgil Street.
The Namdaemun Business Block, Namch'ang Business Block, Uju or Universe Business Block, Hanil Business Block, Olympic Business Block, and Samho Arcade are concentrated in an alley between Samik Shopping Town and Namdaemunno Street.

There are more than 2,000 accessories shops scattered throughout these blocks, forming the largest accessories distribution center in Korea.

The size of each business block varies a lot. There are only a little over 10 shops in the Hanil and Olympic Business Blocks, and eight shops, including shops selling other miscellaneous items, in the Namch'ang Business Block.
About 30 to 40 shops are doing business in the Yusong, Samho, Namdaemun and Shilloam Business Blocks.
Intermediate-sized blocks include Yonsei, with more than 130 shops, and Yongch'ang with more than 100 shops.
Among large-scale blocks are the ones on the second floor of the Taedo Business Block "E" Building with more than 250 shops, one on the second and third floors of the Uju Integrated Business Block Building with over 200 shops, and the Changan Business Block with over 260 shops, and one on the second and third floors of the Namjong Business Block Building with over 200 shops.
The Namjong Business Block offers exclusively accessories and raw-materials for accessories. There are accessories shops on the second and third floors, while the fourth and fifth floors are occupied by accessories materials shops.
Around 50 to 80% of shops offering accessories manufacture products in their own factories, mostly on a cottage-industry level.
Most shops deal in only one product line. Across from the Taedo Business Block "E" Building located on the central passage of the Namdaemun Market are shops specializing in accessories stones.
Most of the business blocks focus on wholesale. General customers, however, can purchase what they want at wholesale prices or slightly higher.

Yejidong Jewelry and Watch Shops

　　Entering the "watch street" opposite the Kwangjang (Plaza) Market in Chongno 4-ga is starting a journey into a totally different world in the heart of downtown Seoul.
The watch shops, which stand side by side along the narrow back alleys leading to Ch'onggyech'on 4-ga, number about 500. When the unauthorized street stalls and jewelry shops with small glass display boards on both sides of the street are added to the count, the number of jampacked shops reaches 1,000.

The products here are sold at prices of up to 40% lower than recommended consumer prices, and their quality is as good as at other retailers.
The kinds of watches vary.
The shops sell famous domestic brand products, as well as watches of some 300 small- and medium-sized manufactures and imported products. The prices of watches range from 1,500 won for children to 10 million won for imported watches.
The jewelry sold here is also around 30% less expensive than at other shops.
