War Memorial
| War Memorial is a place recently opened in June, 1994.
The construction of this war memorial began in September, 1990
and was established to teach future generations lessons
from history and wars in the past. Built on 116,793 square meters of space, the war memorial includes several indoor exhibition halls as well as an outdoor exhibition area. There are about 13,600 items on display. Historical military records and relics dating from the Three-Kingdom Period to the present are on display in six major rooms: Memorial Hall, the War History Room, the Korean War Room, the Expeditionary Forces Room, the Armed Forces Room and the Large Equipment Room. Large-scale weapons from many countries all over the world are on display in the Outdoor Exhibition Area along with a replica of the Tombstone of the Great King Kwanggaeto, the Statue of Brothers (symbolizing the Korean War), and many others. |

This room displays old records and military relics
showing the Korean people's struggle against foreign
invaders and our great achievements from the time
immemorial to the recent Japanese invasion.
Displayed items include documentary paintings of those
wars won by Korea, a replica of the Turtle Ship - the
famous battle ship of the Choson Dynasty -, models of
fortresses and beacon mounds.
The Korean War Room
| This room displays the records, photographs and other
background materials of the Korean War (1950-1953) and
other developments during the war from its outbreak to
the ceasefire. Major battle scenes are depicted in paintings,
models, and original film footage. On display are numerous weapons of both allied and enemy forces, letters sent to and from soldiers and family members, and amulets or charms given to soldiers by their wives. Also included are exhibits on the life of the refugees during the war. |

Expeditionary Forces Room
This room displays a wide range of materials relating to
the activities of Korean armed forces in Vietnam and the
strategy and tactics used by Vietcong.
This room is a good place to grasp the nature and signi-
ficance of the role played by the Korean armed forces
in the Vietnam War.
Armed Forces Room
The display in this room covers the growth of the Armed
Forces from the early days of the Army, Navy, Air Force
and Marine Corps to the present.
Large Equipment Room<BR>
A wide range of large-scale armaments used by both North
and South Korean forces during the Korean War are on
display.
Also included are airplanes, tanks, armored
vehicles, guns and various military vehicles that were
actually used in battlefields around the world since
World War II.

The Statue of Brothers, Replica of the Tombstone of the Great King Kwanggaeto in Kokuryo which was a country of three ones at earlier times, and some 110 large pieces of military equipment including a Soviet T-6 plane, a T-34 tank, and a U.S. B-52 strategic bomber are on display here. |
