virtually forms the spinal columns of Korean Peninsula, stretching north to south
along the east coast. This is also the most beautiful mountain in the South Korea withits many splendid seasonal features; numerous dazzling flowers such as royal azalea blooms in the spring, crystal clear mountain streams in the summer, magnificent autumn-tinted mountain foliage during the Sorak Festival season, and finally snow-veiled winter grandeur are always ready all the year round to invite the tourists to their breathtaking natural wonders. Han-gyeryong Pass and Mishiryong Pass together form a long winding ridge which demarcates the entire park area into Inner Sorak in the West and Outer Sorak in the East. Inner Sorak has many spectacular features like majestic valleys including Paektam Valley, Suryomdong Valley, Paegundong Valley and Kaya Valley. Outer Sorak, on the other hand, became known for its rocks with fantastic shapes and large waterfalls; Ulsanbawi Cliff, Kwongumsong Fortress, Kumganggul Cave, Piryong Waterfall andTowangsong Waterfall are among many sights to visit. |

Mt. Soraksan is the highest mountain (its Taech'ongbong Peak is 1,708 meters high)
of the T'aebaek Mountain Range, the backbone of the Korean Peninsula. It is also one of the most beautiful mountains in South Korea. Many flowers decorate it in the spring, while the crystal-clear water of its valley attracts tourists in summer. In fall, brilliant autumn leaves create a crescendo of colors, and in winter, the entire mountain area turns into a silver wonderland. The park is divided into Inner Sorak and Outer Sorak by a ridge which connects Han-gyeryong, Taech'ongbong Peak and Mishiryong. Boasting rugged yet breathtaking scenery, Inner Sorak lies west of the ridge. It contains many valleys including Paektam Valley, Suryomdong Valley, Paegundong Valley and Kayadong Valley. Meanwhile, Outer Sorak, which stretches east of the ridge, features many rugged rock formations and cliffs as well as huge waterfalls, including Ch'onbultong Valley, Ulsan Rock, Kwongumsong Fortress, Kumgang Cave, Piryong Waterfall and T'owangsong Waterfall. Cooking and camping hre have been forbidden since Nov. 15th, 1990. The National Park Management Corporation forbids visitors from entering certain areas in order to preserve the park. |
