A credit-based public telephone service begins, astonishing the occupation army which declares "Japanese Moral Traditions Still Held High." A magnificent 88.9% rate of payment supports this service at first but is short-lived. Payments decline rapidly and the service finally meets an unfortunate end. Until it is replaced by a coin-operated public telephone service in 1953 (Showa 28), telephones operated without the need of money.
