At the Royal Festival Hall on the South Bank of London, a project series titled <<American Independents>> is held from October 14 to November 19. This is an attempt to show all of the current American culture at once from various angles, such as classical music, jazz, rock, literature, dance, and visual art.

Especially, the concert series is an ambitious one, which takes a bird's eye view of American music of this century, featuring Charles Ives, John Cage, Elliot Carter, George Crumb, Frank Zappa, Henry Brant, and John Adams. There will also be a performance by Diamanda Galas and a concert by David Murray. Outside the site, the mechanical puppet band of Steve Gerberich, the "Gerberich Grand Orchestra" is displayed.
