Paper Shelter Projects for Minority Groups

In the early morning of January 17, 1995, a big earthquake hit the Hanshin Awaji area of western Japan and caused the greatest damage ever. After the earthquake, we participated in a volunteer activity to help people there reconstruct their communities and built a temporary community hall using paper tubes (Paper Church) on a vacant lot in the Nagata district, Kobe where Takatori Church was burnt down. After that we also built a temporary dwelling using paper tubes (Paper Log House) by ourselves for a group of people living in a tent pitched in a park. Since then, we have built 21 units of this Paper Log House with help of volunteers.
