Katsuhiro Oguri


Composer, arranger and pianist.
Full-time lecturer in music, departrment of music, Jr. College, Seitoku University, Chiba Japan.
Member of the Japanese Society for Contemporary Music, the Japan Federation of Composers,INC. , the Shinshin-Kai (a society of composers in Japan).
Studied composition under Teruyuki Noda, Toshiroh Mayuzumi and Akira Miyoshi; music theory under Atsutada Otaka and Yuzuru Shimaoka; piano accompaniment under Dalton Baldwin and Henriette Puig-Roge.

Personal History

1962
Born in Yamanashi Prefecture, Japan.
1985
Graduated from the Tokyo University of Fine Arts and Music in composition; in the same year, presented the first public performance of an orchestral piece "Aoilos" at an annual recital for newly graduated students of the university; won first place in the original choral piece composition held at the Kanagawa Prefectural Art Festival.
1986
Entered the master's course in composition at the Tokyo University of Fine Arts and Music.
1987
Won third place for "Zephyrus" from IMC(International Music Council) International Rostrum of Composers. The recording of the piece was broadcasted by NHK-FM.
1988
Got a master's degree from Tokyo University of Fine Arts and Music.
1991
Wrote music for the opening ceremony and the closing ceremony for National Athletic Meet at Ishikawa in summer and in autumn.
1992
Published "OGURI KATUSMI KONSEI GASSHOU-KYOKU-SHU", an anthology of works for mixed chorus, from editon ONGAKU NO TOMO. From this year on, also published several works for chorus on "KYOUIKU ONGAKU (the Music for Education)" from the same edition. Won prize for "Notos" from NIHON KOUKYOUGAKU SINKOU ZAIDAN (the Foundation for Promoting Orchestral Music in Japan). The prize winning piece was broadcasted by NHK-FM.
1993
Won prize for "Duende del Flamenco" requested by Ballet de Yoko Komatsubara from the Agency for Cultural Affairs.
1994
Concerto for piano was first performed at Tokyo Bunka Kaikan. It was also broadcasted by NHK-FM.
1995
"Concertino" for Violoncello and chamber orchestra was first performed at Tsuda Hall, Tokyo.
1996
Won prize for "Destruction" for Orchestra from NIHON KOUKYOUGAKU SINKOU ZAIDAN (the Foundation for Promoting Orchestral Music in Japan).
