MegaZoo at the World's Fair on the Internet
bullet bullet bullet bullet

I read with interest an article by Bob Johnstone in a recent edition of New Scientist which described plans for an inter-active World's Fair on the Internet.

Staff at the magazine have kindly furnished me with your address and I would very much like to know more about the project which I understand is scheduled for 1996.

My suggestion is fairly simple. A web site at the fair could include a cyberzoo which features the wildlife conservation stories behind the exhibits.

I am a zookeeper with a personal interest in inter-active systems. I have a lot of ideas about multimedia as an educational tool in and around zoological parks. Pages on the web are a logical extension of this interest.

I feel that the analogy between zoos as safe havens for wildlife and protected, but fragmented habitat in the wild can be utilized at the Fair.

The MegaZoo would draw upon the resources of zoological parks but essentially it would be a metaphor for the way the world's wildlife is being manipulated into ever smaller pieces of managed environments.

Would you let me know if the idea is relevant to your plans for the Fair. If you can provide me with more information I can put together some more detailed ideas and proposals.

Yours faithfully,

Mike Clark, Senior Keeper, Small Mammals, London Zoo.
